21st June 2015: Sunday marks the first Annual International Yoga Day, part of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push to promote the ancient Indian discipline. The ancient practice of yoga offers a multitude of benefits to modern-day students at almost every grade level.
Tree Plantation Drive
Under the said programme, NSS volunteers planted 200 saplings of different varieties viz ornamental, shadowing and fruit bearing trees. The students also placed bricks as barricades and each student took the responsibility to nourish and maintain the allocated plant.
Awareness Lecture on Thalassemia
Mr. Vinay Shetty of Think Foundation conducted an awareness lecture at our college, to give information about Thalassemia and to emphasize why we should not hesitate to donate the blood. The lecture helped to clear the misconceptions about the blood donation.
The college conducted a blood donation camp in collaboration with Meenatai Thakre Blood Bank, Goregaon West in the collegel. The drive was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Panjwani in charge of the blood bank.
To promote traffic sense among the commuters, our NSS volunteers headed towards Chincholi Junction at the S.V.Road Signal with avidity and a promise to thank the commuters following traffic rules and also the ones wearing helmets.
Swachatta Abhiyan Campaign
The very first location selected was indeed college campus, wherein all the office boys & housekeeping staff supported the volunteers by arranging the equipment for clean-up. This year indeed, was a great milestone for the N.S.S. unit as we selected the exterior area of Malad Railway station for clean-up. The B.M.C. supported us by providing brooms, dustbins and mouth safety masks to all the N.S.S. volunteers. Students collected 40 kgs. of garbage and also explained the importance of separating dry and wet garbage to the shopkeepers.
N.S.S. Residential Camp
Our College had organized a 7 days Special camp for N.S.S. volunteers at Yusuf Meherally Centre, Raigad. Volunteers were taught to be independent, gain confidence by helping in cooking, doing manual work, etc. The volunteers levelled the ground and constructed the compound boundary of a Municipal school in the nearby village.
The volunteers also learnt to co-operate with each other and learnt the lesson of “one for all and all for one” and more importantly gained confidence which is always being a key to success.
Pulse Polio Immunization Programme
An orientation and training programme was organized for the students participating in the Pulse Polio immunization campaign. 50 volunteers conducted door-to-door visits and administered polio drops to children.
